The Sextant and Scope
The Market Series A pulls of the seamless melding of poetic motion and definitive precision. It's that very pairing of art and accuracy that imbues The Market with a palpable sense of wonder.
Both the numbered sextant and the magnifying scope serve to transmit the information of the financial markets through an inspired and styled lens. Everything from their shape to the small design flourishes adorning the sextant and scope adds a sense of beauty to the raw, bare data they convey.
What better way to represent the sea-like ebb and flow of the financial markets than with these nautically inspired instruments?
The sextant features laser etched numbers that accurately measure the movement of the markets to within a tenth of a percent. The markings took several iterations to get right so that they would stand out clearly and readably. The wider tooth on each side of the sextant covers a small magnet that works with a tiny sensor to establish and measure the scale's position.
The biggest challenge with the scope was creating the right lighting to make the numbers on the sextant readable. Classic tube amplifiers served as the inspiration for the old time feel of the lighting and the appearance of the numbers as you look through the scope.
From the way the light behaves in the scope to the precision accuracy of the tiny worm gear motor, ever single detail of the The Market Series A has been refined to create an experience of awe and wonderment.
